What Can High Blood Pressure Lead To?
There are many possible complications which can arise from uncontrolled high blood pressure and most people are surprised to find just how serious some of these can be. For example, high blood pressure can lead to hardening and thickening of your arteries leading to a heart attack. It can also damage the arteries by causing a bulge (aneurysm) which can be fatal if it bursts. When a similar event occurs within the brain the result can often be a stroke. Similar damage to the blood vessels of the kidneys can prevent them from functioning efficiently and will eventually lead to kidney failure and such damage within the blood vessels of the eyes can result in blindness. Many people dismiss high blood pressure because it rarely has any symptoms and so it is assumed to be relatively harmless. The truth is that it is one of the major killers in many western countries today.
